Irrigation Planned Around Your Playing Surface
Source irrigation components for natural-turf sports fields, golf course areas and surrounding landscapes. Match sprinkler performance, distribution piping and zone controls to the needs of your site.

Coverage, Moisture and Operating Time Must Work Together
Check Distribution Across the Surface
Review sprinkler spacing, nozzle condition and operating pressure. A wet area beside a dry patch can indicate an application problem that extra runtime alone will not resolve.
Look Beyond the Spray Pattern
Even application does not guarantee even soil moisture. Check root-zone conditions and drainage alongside irrigation performance when investigating persistent wet or dry areas.
Fit Watering Around Play and Maintenance
Define the available watering window, then check which zones can run together. Include access requirements for mowing, servicing and field preparation.
Different Playing Areas Need Different Irrigation Plans
Manage Small, High-Priority Areas
Review greens, surrounds and tees separately where their root zones, turf or exposure differ. Specify sprinkler performance around the required coverage and level of control.
- Check edge coverage and overspray.
- Use local moisture observations to refine schedules.
Match Coverage to Hydraulic Capacity
Evaluate sprinkler radius, elevation changes and simultaneous demand. Confirm the selected equipment can deliver its published performance at the available operating pressure.
- Review mainline and submain pressure losses.
- Allow for wind and changes in site contours.
Coordinate Irrigation with Field Use
Specify turf-suitable equipment and installation details for the playing area. Review sprinkler and valve-box positions with the grounds team.
- Account for mowing, aeration and player traffic.
- Schedule irrigation around matches and maintenance.

Keep Surrounding Landscapes on Suitable Zones
Clubhouse beds, trees and entrance landscaping often need a different watering method from turf. Separate these areas where schedules and equipment requirements differ.
This page focuses on natural turf. Synthetic-surface wetting or cooling requires a separate surface-specific specification.

| System function | Products to review | Key specification checks |
|---|---|---|
| Water application | Pop-up sprinklers and sprinkler products | Verified radius and flow at operating pressure, nozzle compatibility, coverage pattern and suitability for the playing surface. |
| Zone switching | Solenoid valves and hydraulic control valves | Flow range, pressure loss, control arrangement and electrical or hydraulic compatibility. |
| Isolation and access | Ball valves, butterfly valves and valve boxes | Pipe size, pressure rating, service clearance and suitability for the traffic and installation location. |
| Distribution piping | Irrigation fittings | Pipe material, actual dimensions, joint standard and operating pressure. |
| Water quality | Irrigation filters | Source water, sprinkler requirements, total operating flow and cleaning provision. |
| Monitoring | Pressure gauges and flowmeters | Range, installation requirements and useful measurement locations. |
For upgrades: Send the existing sprinkler and controller model numbers. A matching pipe thread alone does not establish nozzle, operating or control compatibility.
Measure First, Then Refine the Specification
Establish a Baseline for Each Test Area
Measure operating pressure and flow, inspect sprinkler operation, and use a catch-can audit to evaluate application across a representative area.
Compare the audit with soil-moisture observations. Document worn nozzles, tilted heads, obstructions and recurring dry spots before deciding whether to adjust, repair or replace equipment.

Map the Irrigated Areas
Send dimensions, elevations and irrigation boundaries. Mark greens, tees, fairways or pitch areas, together with existing pipes and equipment.
Share the Supply Data
Provide pump and water-source details, measured flow and pressure, water quality, controller information and the available irrigation window.
Confirm Models and Quantities
Identify new or replacement items, required performance, connection standards, spare parts and delivery location for a defined product quotation.
Check Pressure, Valve Sizing and Zone Control

Can one irrigation schedule serve the whole golf course?
Different turf areas can have different root zones, exposure and management goals. Review greens, tees, fairways and rough separately, then refine schedules using site observations and operating capacity.
What determines sprinkler spacing on a sports field?
Use the selected sprinkler’s performance data at the intended operating pressure, together with field geometry, wind and obstructions. Verify the installed coverage with a representative audit.
Does uniform sprinkler coverage guarantee uniform soil moisture?
No. Soil and root-zone differences, drainage and other site conditions can produce different moisture levels even where water application is similar. Compare coverage measurements with moisture observations.
Can existing pipes and controls be retained during an upgrade?
They may be reusable if their condition, capacity and compatibility meet the revised duty. Share model numbers, pipe specifications and operating measurements before selecting replacements.
What should I provide for a quotation?
Send the site plan, area types, required sprinkler performance, supply flow and pressure, existing control details, quantities and delivery destination. Include audit findings if the project addresses uneven watering.
